About Karsten Drephal

ABOUT

Hello! I am a game designer and Vancouver Film School graduate with two years of professional experience across game design and quality design.

I grew up trading game ideas with my best friend, who approached problems from the programming side while I naturally leaned toward systems, worlds, and player experience. At the time it felt like daydreaming. CryptoBeasts was the project that made me realize I wanted to take game design seriously.

At CryptoBeasts, I started from the quality side of development before moving into a Game Designer role. That first year taught me how players find problems and how important it is to communicate them in a clear way. In my second year, I designed and balanced 120 combat abilities, documented gameplay and economy features, tuned progression systems, and worked with artists and programmers to bring features from concept into the game.

Vancouver Film School gave me a place to apply that experience on smaller, faster team projects with strict deadlines.

I love learning new things, growing, and pouring my passion into making games. I hope to keep doing it for many years to come.

Outside of making games, I like playing football, hiking, swimming, spending time with friends, and of course, video games!
